You know those moments in your life, week, or day where your mind just turns into a battlefield? When you have to start fighting against thoughts of fear, jealousy, comparison, etc.

The other day I was in one of those battles. I was feeling weak and making myself feel worse for it. I started to feel bad because I needed help. I thought to myself,” You shouldn’t always need someone. Sometimes you need to deal with it on your own, to become stronger.”

I started to realize something. That wasn’t true. My strength isn’t based on what I can handle alone because the truth is, WE AREN’T MEANT TO HANDLE THINGS ALONE.

There are of course things we have no problem asking for help with. We’ve created a list of things that are safe to open and expose to someone and we should all know that asking for help in our time of weakness isn’t what measures our strength. Honestly, to me, that in itself is strength.

I’m talking about that idea we have created that there should be things we handle on our own. Those things we don’t want to share because we think we should be able to fix our inner problems for ourselves. For me, I was telling myself that I needed to fight my thoughts alone because I can’t always depend on others for my problems.

Again, I realized something.

I do always have someone I can depend on; God. Of course I’ve always known that but sometimes in the heat of our inner battle, we forget that we aren’t the only ones on the field.

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”(KJV)

Sometimes we forget that we weren’t made to be self-sufficient. The only one that is, is God. We were made to have a relationship with him. And he wants us to depend on him for EVERYTHING. He doesn’t want us to meet our own needs spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”(KJV)

He desires us to go to him with everything. For every need, battle, from the smallest to largest problem. He is a LIMITLESS God. He is the only one that can supply all of our needs and meet us right where we are. He is our beginning and our end. He knows all.

The truth is, he doesn’t NEED us, he WANTS us. But, we NEED him.

We live in a culture that promotes individualism so much. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for tips and finding things that help you become more productive and better you! However, I feel that we’ve grown so comfortable with the idea that in order to be a strong individual you have to take care of everything yourself. Somehow, subconsciously, we have adopted this thought+lifestyle that because man was created in Gods image we can be our own god. Be in control of everything, know everything, and have the solution to everything. We want quick fixes, 4-step solutions, and answers. Answers we want now, never willing to wait for the best one. Not even considering that there may be a better answer than our minds can’t even imagine.

The problem is, those quick fixes and 4 step solutions never truly work. They are temporary. They hold us long enough to think that everything is fine until it isn’t again. We think that by checking off things on our bucket list we can somehow wake up one day feeling fulfilled. Or, by finding the right person to marry. We do this with our mind, our emotions, and even our relationship with God. We look in the wrong places and handle it ourselves without running to him and asking for the answer. The answer that will last!

We don’t like limits. We are constantly pushing the boundaries. What we forget sometimes is those limits are there for a reason. They cause us to go to God! When we go to him with our limits and we say “God, I need you, I can’t do this alone. I need your strength, your wisdom, your guidance.”, we allow him to fill a need that only he can. Which, opens doors to true freedom and joy!

I felt this within certain areas of myself. Areas that I fail to give completely give to God. Areas I try to control for myself but it only becomes harder and makes me feel out of control. Well, of course, I do. I’m not meant to be in control! I don’t get to see the blueprint of my life. I am just supposed to trust in him.

I wanted to share this reality because I’m hoping that it will encourage you. Encourage you to set aside your self plan and pick up God’s plan. I hope that you feel a tugging in your heart to lay everything at his feet and stay patient for the answers God has set aside for you.

Jer. 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wonderous things you could never figure out on your own.” (MSG)

This world will not sustain you+fulfill you. He is our true provider. Seek joy in him! He never asked us to handle things alone. He desires us to ask him for help no matter the situation!

I pray that you too are able to relate to this in some area of your life.

God Bless, Samantha.
